Students from the Sir John Colfox Academy enjoyed a trip back in time when they visited the Ancient Technology Centre.
Around 30 Year 7 students, aged 11-12, explored ancient buildings at the centre near Cranborne, before trying their hand at historic crafts and games, including building from willow and weaving. They gathered around a fire in the Iron Age Earth House to learn how people lived there, before exploring the Viking Long House, a Stone Age Round House, a Roman Forge and Water Lifting Machine.
The trip follows the launch of the school’s Classics Hub, which offers Colfox students more opportunities to go on to study Latin, Greek, Ancient History and the Classical World.
Dr Neil Allies, Head of Languages and Cultures at the Sir John Colfox Academy led the trip. He said: “It was a fascinating trip, exploring ancient buildings and ancient technologies like weaving, cutting logs to keep fires in and trying on reconstructed ancient armour gave our students a real sense of the past and a flavour of what it would have been like to live thousands of years ago."
